Scarlett Strallen stars in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s new production of musical She Loves Me, opening November 25th. Directed by Matthew White, She Loves Me reunites the pair, who previously worked together for Candide at the Menier. An enduring romance based around love letters, the musical was most recently seen on Broadway, starring Laura Benanti.

She Loves Me is the heartfelt story of Amalia and Georg, who are both working as clerks in Maraczek’s Parfumerie. Although the pair aren’t the best of friends, they have more in common than they would ever dare to imagine. Both write to mysterious romantic pen pals, falling for their anonymous admirers and living for the day that they will finally get to meet. With a book by Joe Masteroff, the musical is based on Miklos Laszlo’s play and fuelled the films The Shop around the Corner and You’ve Got Mail.

As one of the acclaimed Strallen sisters, Scarlett has extensive theatre credits to her name, including Candide, The Pirates of Penzance, A Chorus Line, Singin’ in the Rain, Passion and Mary Poppins. She Loves Me features music and lyrics by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick respectively, with songs such as “Vanilla Ice Cream” and “A Trip to the Library”.

Directed by Matthew White (Passion, Ragtime), the musical features design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting design by Paul Pyant, sound design by Greg Clarke, music supervision from Catherine Jayes and orchestrations by Jason Carr. A classic tale of love and romance, She Loves Me has was last seen in the West End at the Savoy Theatre in 1995. This new production opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory for a limited tun until March 5th 2017.
