Rex Pickett’s critically-acclaimed novel and play Sideways receives its West End debut at the St James Theatre London. Best-known as the 2004 Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning film, Sideways follows two men in their forties as they attempt to escape respective midlife crises.

Directed by David Grindley (Our Boys, Daytona), Sideways follows Miles and Jack as they both believe to have hit life’s peak. When friends Miles, a neurotic author who is writing his way into a midlife crisis, and Jack, an actor who is under pressure to get married, take the trip of a lifetime, they discover that there may be more to life than they thought. Heading to Santa Barbara for a week of wine-tasting, the pair encounter Maya and Terra, and the four soon learn just how intoxicating a glass of wine can be.

Inspired by his own novel, Pickett has created plays for both stage and screen, with the 2004 film becoming an Oscar-winning smash-hit starring Paul Giamatti. Sideways originally premiered in the USA, completing successful runs at the Ruskin Group Theater in Santa Monica and La Jolla Playhouse. This revamped version sees Sideways receive both a UK and European premiere.

Sideways features as part of the eclectic St James Theatre spring season, which includes original nuclear-themed musical Miss Atomic Bomb as well as Charlotte Keatley’s award-winning My Mother Said I Never Should. Sideways opens in London on May 26th and will run until July 9th 2016.
