The Edinburgh Fringe smash-hit improvised show Austentatious: The Improvised Jane Austen Novel makes its way to London’s Fortune Theatre after a stellar run of shows in London, Edinburgh, and on tour. The show began a residency at the Fortune Theatre on Monday nights from 18th February 2019.
Austentatious sees a group of the UK’s sharpest comic performers improvise a ‘lost’ Austen novel, taking the title from audience suggestions. Previous titles have included Mansfield Shark and Double O Darcy.
The show is performed in full Regency costume and features live musical accompaniment. Whilst no two shows are the same, the ‘lost’ novel is sure to include dashing dates, romantic endeavours, and plenty of preposterous plots.
The cast includes Amy Cooke-Hodgson, Andrew Hunter Murray, Cariad Lloyd, Charlotte Gittins, Daniel Nils Roberts, Graham Dickson, Joseph Morpurgo, and Rachel Paris. Set design is by Amy Cook with lighting designed by Damian Robertson.
The Austentatious company have performed over five hundred ‘lost’ novels, selling out five national tours as well as six Edinburgh Fringe runs. The company recorded a one-off special for BBC Radio 4 and were awarded the ‘Best Improvised Comedy Act’ in the 2016 What’s On London Comedy Awards.
The show is also offering a loyalty card scheme. Fans of the show are offered a fifth performance for free after they have seen four performances.
Whether you’re a fan of Austen or have never read any of her works, Austentatious is the perfect comedy to perk up a Monday night.
