See the Queen of Soul Beverley Knight in this classic musical with Cats tickets

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece is returning to the London Palladium from 23 October 2015, starring Beverley Knight as Grizabella the Glamour Cat.

The musical is based on T. S. Elliot’s whimsical poems Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. The quirky story centres on a group of cats called The Jellicles who meet once a year at the Jellicle ball to make ‘the Jellicle choice’ of who should ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn. Throughout the show the audience are introduced to various feline characters including ‘Gus the theatre cat’, ‘Skimbleshanks: The Railway Cat’ and ‘Mr Mistoffelees’.

The show is incredibly physical and requires its cast of lycra wearing, leg warmer donning, singer/dancers to move like felines with each member of the ensemble having their own distinct personality.

The original production opened at the New London theatre in 1981 and starred Elaine Paige in the iconic role of Grizabella. It was directed by Trevor Nunn with associate direction and choreography by Gillian Lynne. Cats received numerous awards including the Tony and Olivier for Best Musical. It has since been seen across the globe and translated into 10 languages. The London production ran for a staggering 21 years, with the Broadway production not far behind managing an impressive 18 years.

The classic score includes “Jellicle songs for Jellicle Cats”, “Macavity” and of course the show stopping “Memory” which has been recorded by over 150 artists including Barbara Streisand and Barry Manilow.
