How did honest, decent, liberal people get swept up by the rising tide of Nazism in pre-war Germany? Acclaimed stage and screen actor David Tennant will return to the West End in CP Taylor’s award-winning play, Good, exploring the difficult moral questions that lead to an unthinkable crescendo.

Tennant will star as John Halder, an intelligent, music-loving professor who finds he must adapt as the world around him changes. As Nazism grows, Halder must decide whether to fight for his country’s good or join his fellow citizens on the road to evil.

Tennant was last seen in the West End in Patrick Marber’s Don Juan in Soho in 2017 and has previously starred in Richard II and Hamlet for the RSC, Look Back in Anger, and Lobby Hero, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor. He is best known for his starring role in the iconic BBC series, Doctor Who.

Also in the cast are Fenella Woolgar (Slaves of Solitude, Handbagged) as Helen+ and Elliot Levey (Snowflake, Three Sisters) as Maurice+. Further casting is to be announced.

Good will be directed by Dominic Cooke and will mark the first production under his new company, Fictionhouse, which will create theatre, TV and film. Cooke previously directed the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the National Theatre and the feature film On Chesil Beach based on Ian McEwan’s best-selling novel.

This revival of one of the most powerful, political plays of the Twentieth Century will play a strictly limited season at the Playhouse Theatre from 6 October 2020. Tickets are expected to sell fast.
