A kaleidoscopic new play celebrating queer culture and paying tribute to the generation of gay men lost to the AIDS crisis will make its world premiere in the West End this summer.

Cruise, a new play written and performed by Jack Holden, will open at the Duchess Theatre from May 2021 for a strictly limited West End run.

Set in London’s Soho in 1988, Cruise tells the story of what should have been Michael Spencer’s last night on Earth. Diagnosed with HIV in 1984, he was told by doctor’s that he only had four years to live, so as the clock ticks down, Michael decides to go out in style. As he celebrates and says farewell to friends, the clock strikes zero and Michael… survives. With the gift of life, how can he go on living?

Jack Holden’s West End credits include the National Theatre’s War Horse and the Almeida Theatre’s Ink. He has also performed at the RSC, Bristol Old Vic and toured extensively around the UK. Cruise marks his West End debut as a playwright.

For an intoxicating play that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure, set to a nostalgic 80s soundtrack, don’t miss this inspirational piece of theatre at the Duchess Theatre.
