Be a hero yourself by treating your friends and family to Local Hero tickets as this new musical based on the BAFTA-winning film hits London

The hit comedy film Local Hero will be adapted for the stage next summer in a production which includes music and songs by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. Local Hero will play at the Old Vic Theatre, after performances at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh.

Bill Forsyth’s BAFTA-winning film came to screens in 1983 and received critical acclaim.

Texan oil executive Mac MacIntyre flies to Scotland in the hopes of buying out a small seaside village – and replace it with an oil refinery. It sounds like the deal of a lifetime, but it seems that choosing a price for this beautiful area is more difficult than it first appears. The locals must decide what their home is really worth – before they all get rich.

Full casting is to be announced.

Local Hero will be written by Bill Forsyth and David Greig. Forsyth is the original writer and director of the film whilst Greig is known for the Old Vic’s production of The Lorax. Music and songs will be composed by Mark Knopfler of the band Dire Straits.

John Crowley will adapt this stage adaptation. Crowley’s work includes films such Brooklyn and The Goldfinch. He is also directing A Very Expensive Poison, another show in the Old Vic’s fifth season.

The production is presented by special arrangement with Neal Street Productions and Patrick Daly.

Local Hero will run at the Old Vic Theatre in 2021.
