The life and career of legendary rock ‘n’ roll artist Tina Turner is lighting up London’s Aldwych Theatre. TINA: The Tina Turner Musical reveals the incredible rise to fame of one of the world’s best-selling singers, as she overcomes the bounds of her age, gender and race, set against a back catalogue of her greatest hits.f

Born in 1939, Tina Turner grew from humble beginnings in Tennessee to transform into the ultimate Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. With a career that has spanned over half a century, the world-famous performer first shot to fame in the 1960s as a partner to her then-husband Ike Turner. Achieving huge acclaim for their thrilling live performances and smash-hit songs, Turner went on to enjoy an international solo career, scooping three Grammy Awards for her 1984 album Private Dancer.

In 1991, Turner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, after delivering countless chart-topping songs and winning eight further Grammys. TINA the musical brings to life the singer’s phenomenal story, featuring a soundtrack of familiar songs including “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, “River Deep Mountain High”, “Simply the Best” and “Proud Mary”.

It is the first dramatisation of the singer’s life that has been created in direct collaboration with Turner herself. She was closely involved in the early stages of TINA the musical’s development and gave her full blessing to the creative team’s vision – so audiences can sit back and be stunned by this musical, safe in the knowledge that it is as accurate and sensitive as it is entertaining.

Aisha Jawando (Motown, The Book of Mormon) leads the cast as Tina, with Caleb Roberts (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella)  as her husband Ike Turner. The full company includes Charis Alexandra, Irene Myrtle Forrester, Chris Grahamson, Kelly Hampson, Gregory Haney among others. The role of Tina is also played by Elesha Paul Moses at some performances.

Tina is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who has proven her versatility by also directing the Shakespeare Trilogy at the Donmar Warehouse. Lloyd has had previous international success with the smash-hit jukebox musical Mamma Mia! another show that has wit, emotion and amazing music at its heart. Written by Olivier Award-winner Katori Hall (The Mountaintop) – who hails from Turner’s home State of Tennessee – with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, Tina features roof-raising choreography by Anthony van Laast (Sister Act), electrifying design by Mark Thompson, lighting by Bruno Poet and sound by Nevin Steinberg. Together, they bring some of Turner‘s most iconic and memorable live performance moments to the West End stage with stunning accuracy.

Brought to the stage by Stage Entertainment, Joop van den Ende and Tali Pelman, TINA the musical is a glittering West End show that relives the emotional story of one of the world’s greatest performers.

The production opened in March 2018 and won Kobna Holdbrook-Smith an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. The show was also nominated for Best New Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Adrienne Warren. It has since opened on Broadway, in the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany, and even on the other side of the world in Australia. With its incredible production values, hair, makeup and costume, theatregoers feel totally transported back to the height of Turner’s success and emotionally invested in her life during TINA the musical.
