One of the most groundbreaking British plays of the last century, Shelagh Delaney’s A Taste of Honey returns to the West End for the first time in sixty years. Jodie Prenger stars.

Set in 1950s Britain, A Taste of Honey follows teenager Jo who, when her mother Helen runs off with a car salesman, takes up with a sailor who promises to marry her before he leaves for the seas. Soon Geof, an art student, moves in and becomes Jo’s parental figure, until he makes the mistakes of sending for Helen.

Jodie Prenger (Oliver!, One Man, Two Guvnors) stars as Helen. The production is directed by Bijan Sheibani (Barber Shop Chronicles) with design by Hildegard Bechtler (Anthony and Cleopatra). This production’s exciting new staging features original blues and soul influenced music by Benjamin Kwasi Burrell, as well as new arrangements of existing jazz era songs.

A striking depiction the female spirit and of working-class life in post-war Britain, A Taste of Honey arrives at Trafalgar Studio One from 5th December - 29th February.
