Following a smash-hit, sold-out run at the National Theatre, Natasha Gordon’s critically-acclaimed debut play Nine Night transfers to the West End’s Trafalgar Studios. Playing at the London venue for a strictly limited season, the remarkably touching play is a hugely funny exploration of a family celebrating the traditions of a Jamaican Nine Night Wake.

Gloria is very unwell, and when the time comes for her to pass on, it’s also time for traditional wake. With Gloria’s relatives and friends all arriving to celebrate her life, a party that lasts for an entire week will always be a test. Examining the rituals of family, Nine Night brings to life stories and music from an endless parade of mourners.

Original casting at the National Theatre included Cecilia Noble, Franc Ashman, Ricky Fearon, Hattie Ladbury, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Rebekah Murrell and Michelle Greenridge. Casting for the Trafalgar Studios production is yet to be announced.

Nine Night is directed by Roy Alexander Weise, whose credits include The Mountaintop, Heretic Voices and Jekyll and Hyde. The production also features design by Rajha Shakiry, lighting design by Paule Constable and sound design by George Dennis, with movement direction by Shelley Maxwell.

An extraordinary play about grief, tradition and a confliction with contemporary life, Nine Night is Natasha Gordon’s brand new, debut play that has earned praise from audiences and critics alike. Playing a strictly limited season at London’s Trafalgar Studios, the production runs from 1 December 2018 to 8 February 2019, with an official opening on 6 December 2018.
