Broadway classic 42nd Street dusts off its tap shoes for a brand new production in London. Opening at Sadler’s Wells for a strictly limited season, the iconic backstage musical features show stopping music and spectacular dance routines. 

42nd Street follows small-town dreamer Peggy, who travels to New York to get her big break on the stage. When she catches the eye of a hotshot director, she joins the chorus line of Broadway’s newest musical and becomes embroiled in backstage drama and a budding love affair. Soon, the leading lady of the show becomes injured and Peggy is offered the chance to step into the spotlight. Will her turn on the stage be a success? 

This timeless musical features songs including “We’re In The Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway” and the titular “42nd Street”, all set amongst dazzling tap dance choreography, backstage drama and an irresistible romantic subplot. 

Directed by Jonathan Church (Singin’ In The Rain, The Drifters Girl), this new revival of 42nd Street is a co-production between Leicester Curve Theatre and Sadler’s Wells. The musical has a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin and Johnny Mercer and music by Harry Warren. 

The original Broadway production won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and it was last in London, to huge popular acclaim, at Theatre Royal Drury Lane between 2017 and 2019. 

42nd Street at Sadler’s Wells has choreography and design by Olivier Award winners Bill Deamer (Top Hat) and Rob Jones (Noises Off). 

Celebrate the spirit of Broadway, irrepressibly joyful dance routines and one girl’s journey from dreamer to star with 42nd Street. It opens at Sadler’s Wells in June 2023.
