Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical, a brand-new musical biopic of one of the most iconic musicians of all-time runs at the Lyric Theatre until January 2023.
The musical takes direct inspiration from Bob Marley’s visionary lyrics to tell his extraordinary personal story, featuring some of his greatest songs including “No Woman No Cry”, “3 Little Birds” and “Exodus”.
Marley is considered one of the pioneers of reggae music and played an integral role in increasing the visibility of Jamaican music and the Rastafarian movement worldwide. He died from cancer in 1981, receiving a state funeral in Jamaica and an outpouring of grief globally. His posthumous greatest hits album, Legend, became the best-selling reggae album of all-time.
Michael Duke (The Inheritance) takes on the titular role, with further casting including Gabrielle Brooks as Rita Marley, Melissa Brown-Taylor as Marcia Griffiths and Henry Faber as Island Records Founder, Chris Blackwell. The musical features a book by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour) and direction from Clint Dyer (Death of England, The Big Life).
