Mamma Mia! is the West End’s mother of all jukebox musicals, and my my, how can you resist it? Impressing audiences since 1999, the Mamma Mia musical has earned an Olivier Award and has also been made into a massively popular film starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. Featuring hit after hit from ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! is London’s most successful jukebox musical, with a powerful storyline peppered with great songs, playing at the Novello Theatre.

Set in the 90s on a paradise Greek island, Mamma Mia! is the heart-warming tale of a close mother and daughter who are both on bumpy paths to true love. As young Sophie prepares to marry island stud Sky, she wishes that her father would be able to walk her down the aisle. Unfortunately, Sophie is not quite sure who her father is, but soon pinpoints three possible paternal figures after examining her mother’s old diaries! In order to discover which of the men is her dad, Sophie invites all three to her wedding – without Donna even knowing! Soon, Donna’s best girlfriends arrive on the island… just in time as Donna faces the ghosts of lovers past!

The Mamma Mia musical is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast, and features smash hits from Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Popular songs in the show include “Honey, Honey”, “Dancing Queen”, “Money, Money, Money”, “Does Your Mother Know”, “Voulez-Vous”, “SOS” and many, many more that will have you dancing in your seat! British playwright Catherine Johnson wrote the book, and the result is a completely unique musical that ensures that the songs are perfectly placed to fit in with the hilarious storyline.

Since opening in 1999, the Mamma Mia musical has become so popular that it was adapted into a big-budget film in 2008. Some of Hollywood’s most famous stars rushed to be involved including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Pierce Brosnan and Dominic Cooper. A sequel, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again,  followed in 2018 with much of the cast returning. The original stage show remains the brightest and best version however, and there is nothing that can match the feeling of sitting in the auditorium with hundreds of other fans, listening to ABBA’s songs performed live by a talented West End cast!

The current Mamma Mia musical cast in London includes Meg Hateley as Sophie Sheridan, Mazz Murray (We Will Rock You) as Donna Sheridan, Gemma Goggin as Rosie, Josie Benson as Tanya, Miles Henderson as Sky, Christopher Dickens as Harry Bright, Stephen Beckett as Bill Austin, Norman Bowman as Sam Carmichael, Jake Bailey as Pepper, Natasha Heyward as Ali and Olivia Lallo as Lisa.

Dancing Queens, get your best clothes on, head down to the West End and get ready to feel young and free! The irrepressible Mamma Mia musical is one of London’s longest-running shows and a pure delight that entertains sell-out crowds all year ’round. Earning rave reviews from both audiences and critics alike, this show is the perfect night out for ABBA fans, who will be able to sing and dance to their heart’s content at the curtain call!
