Book Operation Mincemeat musical tickets to enjoy the eccentric true story of a corpse that tricked Hitler

An irrepressible new British musical about one of World War Two’s most bizarre moments has a new target in the West End. Discover the true story of the corpse that outwitted Hitler in Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre

In 1943, the Allies were losing the war and Hitler’s advances across Europe seemed imminent. Enter MI5 agents, who were tasked with devising a plan to wrongfoot the enemy. Armed with a stolen corpse dressed in military gear, they created a whole new life for him, attached fake government documents to his briefcase and dropped him off at sea near the Spanish coast. And then they waited…

Operation Mincemeat is based on the unbelievable but true story of a secret mission which many credit as a pivotal moment in the war. It has recently been adapted into a film starring Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald and Matthew Mcfadyen, but this new musical is a brilliantly off-piste approach to the story.

Operation Mincemeat has a book, music and lyrics by fringe theatre company SplitLip, or individually: David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoe Roberts. It features just five actors playing a whole variety of roles, and an original score of songs which range in genre from Hamilton-esque rap to lovelorn ballad.

The musical takes inspiration from musical theatre, WWII films and clipped-speech and stiff upper lip Noel Coward plays – and sends them up with a heavy dose of humour.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to enjoy one of British theatre’s best new musicals. With a healthy mix of humour, satire and heart, Operation Mincemeat is in the West End for a limited season.
