Jamie Lloyd’s electrifying new production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull starring Emilia Clarke makes a triumphant return to the West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

In an isolated home in the Russian countryside, four characters are inherently dissatisfied with their lives – famous author Boris, budding ingenue Nina, fading actress Irina and lovestruck playwright Konstantin. As their dreams are shattered and their hope fading, they are left with nowhere to turn except on each other.

Emilia Clarke, who made her West End debut in the play when it premiered in 2020, will return to reprise her role as Nina. Clarke is best known for her breakthrough role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones, which garnered her four Emmy Award nominations. She has also appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Me Before You and Last Christmas

Jamie Lloyd is renowned for his radical new productions of classic plays, which have included Betrayal, Evita and the soon-to-be-revived Cyrano de Bergerac starring James McAvoy. Lloyd is a major promoter of affordable theatre, launching various schemes to encourage younger and diverse audiences to see his shows.

The Seagull is widely considered the first of Chekhov’s four major plays, which also include Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. Jamie Lloyd’s production uses a new adaptation by playwright Anya Reiss, which modernises the setting.

Combining Jamie Lloyd’s visionary direction, Reiss’ compelling adaptation of Chekhov’s timeless play, and Clarke’s undoubted star power, The Seagull is guaranteed to be a hot ticket in the West End. Catch it at the Harold Pinter Theatre for a 10-week summer season.
