The Secret Garden
Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved 1911 novel, The Secret Garden is the charming story following Mary Lennox, who returns to live with her reclusive Uncle Archibald in Yorkshire after becoming orphaned in India. There, Mary meets the ill-tempered maid Martha, who tells her of the secret garden that once belonged to her Aunt Lily. Mary’s search for this enchanted garden introduces her to Dickon, Ben and Neville, all of whom change her life forever. A compelling tale about fate, forgiveness and hope, The Secret Garden shows how something can blossom out of even the most bitter of environments.
Directed by Rupert Hands, the musical features choreography by Jamie Neale and musical direction from Richard Baker, all of whom worked on Annie at the Arts Theatre. The Secret Garden also features set and costume design by Lizzy Leech, with an original script and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon.
With over 2,000 children auditioning for the show, a cast of 300 youngsters will rotate across the performances, providing an altogether unique production. The Secret Garden will bring to life a beloved children’s tale, involving as many children as possible. Don’t miss out on this heart-warming production, opening at London’s Ambassadors Theatre for previews on July 27th until August 31st 2016.
