To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most famous American novels of all time, with more than 45 million copies sold. Its author, Harper Lee, won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature after publication, and its themes and language led to it being on the banned books list. It was adapted for the stage by Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe winner Aaron Sorkin, who is known for writing The West Wing and The Social Network, and directed by Bartlett Sher, a Tony Award-winner whose credits include My Fair Lady and South Pacific.
The To Kill a Mockingbird play was a huge success on both sides of the Atlantic, earning nine Tony nominations and winning one, and five Olivier Award nominations. It last played in London at the Gielgud Theatre, and has been touring the UK this year to sold out crowds.
