It was the off-pitch feud that dominated social media for months: now, after a series of weekly performances at the Wyndham’s Theatre, the infamous Vardy vs Rooney case comes to the stage in The Wagatha Christie Trial at the Ambassadors Theatre.

When Coleen Rooney publicly accused fellow footballer’s wife and former friend Rebekah Vardy of selling stories to the tabloids, the online gossip sphere braced itself. What followed was an incredible display of social media sleuthing with more twists and turns than a Poirot story, and a week-long trial to determine who was telling the truth.

In this brand new play, audiences have the chance to sit in on the highly publicised court case that gripped a nation obsessed by the high stakes worlds of sport and celebrity. Verbatim extracts from the trial reveal what went on behind closed doors in this gripping and hilarious courtroom drama, as the two key players share their side of the story.

Casting at the Ambassadors Theatre includes Laura Dos Santos (Educating Rita) as Coleen Rooney and Lucy May Barker (Mamma Mia! The Musical) as Rebekah Vardy.

Joining them is Jonathan Broadbent (The Comedy of Errors) as Hugh Tomlinson QC, Tom Turner as David Sherborne and Nathan McMullen (Misfits) in multiple roles including Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy.

Vardy VS Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial is edited from seven days of High Court transcripts by Liv Hennessy and directed by Lisa Spirling. Further creatives include designer Polly Sullivan, lighting designer Ben Bull, and composer and sound designer Richard Hammarton.
