Towering historical drama with A Man for All Seasons play tickets

Direct from an acclaimed season at Theatre Royal Bath, Martin Shaw stars as Thomas More in  the “elegant and imposing” (The Telegraph) A Man for All Seasons play at the Harold Pinter Theatre. This landmark revival brings Robert Bolt’s classic historical drama – and Shaw’s commanding turn – to West End audiences for a strictly limited season. Intrigue and ambition lurk around every corner, but can More survive the court of King Henry VIII?

In Tudor England, Thomas More is a respected scholar and Lord Chancellor under Henry VIII. But when his religious principles clash with the king’s desire to divorce his first wife, he makes a shocking decision. His integrity may be intact, but will he pay the ultimate price for defying the crown?

Robert Bolt’s gripping drama of conviction, identity, and sacrifice was originally written as a BBC radio play, and premiered on stage at the Gielgud Theatre in 1960. It has since been performed across the world, and was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film starring Paul Scofield as Thomas More.

This new production of the A Man for All Seasons play began life at Theatre Royal Bath before transferring to London, helmed by director Jonathan Church (Singin’ in the Rain, The Picture of Dorian Gray). The creative team includes Simon Higlett overseeing both set and costume design, Mark Henderson on lighting, Paul Groothuis on sound, and composer Matthew Scott.

Taking the lead role, Martin Shaw (Judge John Deed) returns to the West End as Sir Thomas More, delivering a performance praised for its “saintly gravitas” (The Times) and quiet, unwavering resolve. He is joined by Gary Wilmot (Anything Goes, Wicked) as the multifaceted Common Man, whose sardonic personality adds wit to this intense story. The ensemble also features Edward Bennett, Abigail Cruttenden, Nicholas Day, Orlando James, Asif Khan and others reprising their roles from the acclaimed UK tour.

Haunted by history and impressively acted, Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons play remains as timely now as ever – an elegant, imposing drama of conscience versus power. Secure your tickets today for this powerful revival at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
