The first major stage production of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin will transfer to London’s Harold Pinter Theatre from the 4th July for a limited run. The stage show is based on Louis de Bernières’ best-selling novel, and marks the 25th anniversary of the book being published.
Published in 1994, the novel went on to win several wards including the 1995 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. In 2001, a film adaptation was released, starring Penelope Cruz and Nicolas Cage. This stage production has been successfully touring the UK this year to rave reviews.
An epic love story set on the Greek island of Cephalonia, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin follows the lives of the strong-willed Pelagia and the Italian Captain Antonio Corelli during the Italian and German occupation of the island during the second world war.
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin stars Alex Mugnaioni as Captain Corelli, Madison Clare as Pelagia, Joseph Long as Dr Iannis, Ryan Donaldson as Carlo, Ashley Gayle as Mandras, and Fred Fergus as Francesco.
The show is adapted from the novel by BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Rona Munro and directed by Olivier and Tony Award nominee Melly Still. Set and costume design comes from Mayo Trikerioti, lighting by Malcolm Rippeth, sound by Jon Nicholls, and projection designed by Dom Baker. Harry Blake composes the music.
