The Comeback, a hilarious new play from award-winning comedy duo Ben Ashenden and Alex Owen, will play a socially-distanced run at the Noel Coward Theatre this December.

The Comeback follows two up-and-coming comedic double acts playing mundane warm-up spots in sleepy, seaside towns. One night the duos discover a Hollywood director – played by a celebrity guest at each performance – is in the audience and glimpse an opportunity. What was once mundane turns into farcical mayhem as the comics wrestle for the limelight as they perform the most high-stakes gig of their careers.

Ashenden and Owen, who use the stage name The Pin, are best known for their eponymous BBC Radio 4 sketch comedy. The Pin premiered in 2015, receiving the Best Comedy trophy at the BBC Radio Awards, following a stint of sold-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as appearances on BBC Three, Channel 4 and Comedy Central.

The Comeback is The Pin’s debut play and takes inspiration from classic comedy plays such as Michael Frayn’s Noises Off and the old-school charm of iconic comedy double act, Morecambe and Wise.

The play will be directed by Emily Burns, who worked with the duo on their 2018 show, Backstage, at Soho Theatre and in Edinburgh. Produced by Sonia Friedman, the production will also include set and costume design by Rosanna Vize; lighting by Prema Mehta; and sound and music by Giles Thomas.

The perfect mix of side-splitting laughs and heart-warming nostalgia, The Comeback is a delightful Christmas treat playing at the Noel Coward Theatre from 8th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021.
