Following a hugely successful previous season at the Noel Coward Theatre in 2011, legendary Russian theatre company Sovremennik Theatre return to the West End with three of their most celebrated productions. Playing a strictly limited run at the Piccadilly Theatre, Two for the Seesaw is the second play of the season, opening May 2017.
Originally an American drama by William Gibson, Two for the Seesaw is given a contemporary Russian twist in this production. Set in New York, the play follows an intense affair between a Nebraska lawyer and eccentric dancer.
When he departs for the Big Apple to escape his marriage, he meets a dancer at a party and before long embarks on a torrid affair. Their relationship comes under scrutiny as their previous partners continue linger in the background. Quickly, temperaments come to the forefront and a tantalising climax is reached.
Two for the Seesaw stars two of Russia’s greatest actors, Chulpan Khamatova and Kirill Safanov. Directed by Sovremennik Theatre’s co-founder and Artistic Director Galina Volchek, the three plays are set to host a cast and crew of over 100 people.
Two for the Seesaw opens at the Piccadilly Theatre on May 8th and plays limited performances until May 9th 2017. Please note that the play will be performed in Russian with English subtitles.
