Get in, losers, we’re going to see the Mean Girls musical! Tina Fey’s iconic high school movie becomes a smart and sassy Broadway musical, and you definitely want to sit with us to watch it. After becoming the Queen Bee in New York in 2018, it makes its hotly anticipated West End premiere in 2024 at the Savoy Theatre, and it’s going to be totally fetch!
The characters you know and love (and love to quote) from the film are all here, as new student Cady arrives at her new Illinois high school. She might have grown up with zoologist parents, but nothing could prepare her for the vicious hierarchy that the teenage girls have set up! Soon, Cady is blending in with the beautiful but notoriously nasty Plastics to try and take them down. But one thing she doesn’t realise is that you can’t become Queen Bee without getting stung…
The Mean Girls musical opened on Broadway in 2018 and was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. West End audiences have been crying out for it to cross the pond, and now it is set to be the hot ticket of 2024.
The show has a book by original screenwriter Tina Fey, who is also known for her work on 30 Rock, music by Fey’s husband, the three-time Emmy Award winner Jeff Richmond (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde the Musical). Expect to see all the best moments from the film as Cady’s plan unfolds, with songs including “Apex Predator” and “Meet The Plastics” making it even more fun.
