My Master Builder
Catch Ewan McGregor’s stage return with My Master Builder play tickets
Ewan McGregor is back on the London stage for the first time in 17 years in 2025, starring in Lila Raicek’s startling My Master Builder play. Inspired by Ibsen’s The Master Builder, this new drama follows a publishing exec whose plans to celebrate her architect husband’s latest work are disrupted by the arrival of his former student. McGregor reunites with Olivier Award-winning director Michael Grandage (Othello) for this world premiere production, which plays at Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited season.
It’s almost 4 July in the Hamptons, and Elena Solness, a high-powered name in the publishing industry, is getting ready to throw a huge party in her husband Henry’s honour. Henry is going to unveil his newest work – his masterpiece – but something entirely different is revealed when his former student Mathilde arrives. Elena and Henry’s already fragile marriage is put to the test as secrets are exposed, relationships stretched, and the lives of three people potentially upended forever.
Inspired by Henrik Ibsen, American playwright and screenwriter Lila Raicek’s play is a surprising meditation about love and vulnerability, directed by Michael Grandage. Grandage is former Artistic Director at the Donmar Warehouse, where he collaborated with Ewan McGregor on two acclaimed projects: Othello and Guys and Dolls. He is also known as the Tony Award-winning director of Red on Broadway, and helmed Frozen the Musical in the West End.
Ewan McGregor is a superstar of stage and screen, best known as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars and for his performance in the cult film Trainspotting. With his role in the new My Master Builder play, he performs on stage in London for the first time in almost two decades – meaning this is a hugely exciting show to see in 2025. He is joined in the play by Golden Globe Award winner Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown) as Mathilde, Olivier Award nominee Kate Fleetwood (London Road) as Elena, David Ajala as Ragnar, and Mirren Mack as Kaja.
Don’t miss your chance to catch Ewan McGregor back on stage! Combining the classic storytelling of Ibsen in a contemporary package, McGregor, Lila Raicek and Michael Grandage bring exhilarating prestige drama to the West End for a limited time only.
