Catch Martin Shaw in this classic comedy with Hobson’s Choice tickets

Martin Shaw stars in a brand new production of Harold Brighouse’s classic comedy Hobson’s Choice at London’s Vaudeville Theatre. Following the departure of Broadway’s bawdy Olivier Award-nominated Hand to God, Hobson’s Choice transfers to the London venue from the Theatre Royal Bath to enjoy a limited West End run that starts June 8th 2016.

Directed by Chichester Festival Theatre’s artistic director Jonathan Church, the revival of Hobson’s Choice marks the one hundredth anniversary of the comedy’s first UK production. Following Henry Horatio Hobson, self-made man, shopkeeper and skinflint, Hobson’s Choice is regularly performed. When Maggie, his eldest daughter refuses to marry Will Mossop, Hobson’s bootmaker, a battle of wills begins that will see Hobson lose either his customers, daughters, or his pride. With a long fight ahead of him, the decision is ultimately Hobson’s choice.

Martin Shaw takes the title role of Henry Hobson, starring alongside Naomi Frederick (Made in Dagenham) as Maggie and Bryan Dick (Wolf Hall) as Will Mossop. Further casting also includes Gabrielle Dempsey and Joanna McCallum, with additional cast members yet to be announced. Shaw is best-known for his stints in the television series’ Inspector George Gently and Judge John Deed, and also has extensive stage credits which include A Man for All Seasons and Twelve Angry Men at London’s Garrick Theatre.

Hobson’s Choice features design by Simon Higlett, lighting by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Mike Walker and an original score by Matthew Scott. An unlikely story that combines romance with plenty of comedy, Hobson’s Choice promises to be highly entertaining. Opening at the Vaudeville Theatre, the production is set to run from June 8th until September 10th 2016.
