The Gruffalo
Family fun with The Gruffalo play tickets
Are your little ones ready for an amazing theatre trip? This summer, The Gruffalo play is back in the West End for a limited season at the Lyric Theatre. Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved picture book, this magical show is a chance to experience the story as you’ve never done before! Packed with songs, music, engaging storytelling and lots of fun, it’s perfect for children aged 3 and above (and – of course – their grown-ups).
Take a stroll into the deep, dark woods and meet Mouse, who’s headed out to find some hazelnuts. As she ventures further into the trees, she meets all sorts of interesting animals, including a cunning Fox, a wise old Owl and a sneaky Snake. They all want to gobble her up for dinner, but luckily she has an idea: she’ll tell them stories about the terrifying Gruffalo to distract them! But the Gruffalo isn’t real… is he? Find out in this exciting adventure on stage.
First published in 1999, The Gruffalo has been transporting families to a forest full of surprising creatures for 27 years, and is the most famous of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s creations. With instantly recognisable illustrations, this award-winning story is a modern classic, read to children before bedtime in millions of households. You might even have seen the television adaptation – and the sequel, The Gruffalo’s Child – but seeing it on stage is a whole new experience that will captivate young children.
The Gruffalo play is staged by children’s theatre company Tall Stories, who have also produced stage versions of Elmer, Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo’s Child. Their down-to-earth, accessible approach to children’s theatre makes them a favourite for families wanting to introduce their kids to live performance – and at just 60 minutes, The Gruffalo is just the right length to keep them occupied too.
So… why not head down to the deep dark theatre and see if you can find The Gruffalo? It’s at the Lyric Theatre for a limited season this summer.
