What if Happily Ever After wasn’t the end of the story? After winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival in 2026, the Bridge Theatre’s “thrilling, mischievous” (The Times) Into the Woods musical comes to the West End for a strictly limited season. Fairytales are turned upside down and wishes come true – with a cost – in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s brilliant classic show, playing at the Noel Coward Theatre.
Once upon a time, the Baker and his wife wish for a child, but will they regret it when the Witch offers them a bargain? As they head into the woods in search of items to break their curse, their paths cross with a boy and his cow, a girl in a red cloak, maidens covered in cinders… all seeking something between the trees. When they get what they wish for, will they be happy? Or is life after the happy ending not what they dreamed of?
Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd) and James Lapine’s Into the Woods musical is a surprising, charming and wonderfully weird spin on fairytale stories, with some of the biggest songs in the playbook including “Agony”, “It Takes Two”, “Giants in the Sky” and “Children Will Listen”.
This five-star revival, directed by Jordan Fein (Fiddler on the Roof), opened at the Bridge Theatre, earning 11 Olivier Awards nominations and winning Best Musical Revival and Best Lighting Design. Set and costumes are by Tom Scutt (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club).
The Into the Woods musical cast includes Kate Fleetwood (A View from the Bridge), reprising her role as The Witch. She is joined by returning cast members Jo Foster (Just For One Day) as Jack and Gracie McGonigal (The Little Foxes) as Red Riding Hood.
