A-Lister historical drama with Amadeus play tickets

Over a decade after it was last staged at the National Theatre, Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells star in Peter Shaffer’s historical drama Amadeus, which arrives in the West End in a new production directed by Jeremy Herrin (Labour of Love, People Places and Things).  A “sensually rich production” (A Younger Theatre), Amadeus charts the conflict between popular composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri in 18th-century Vienna. The new revival heads to the Noel Coward Theatre from spring 2027 for a limited season.

Inspired by the “contrast between the sublimity of his music and the vulgar buffoonery of his letter” (The Guardian), Amadeus follows a fictional account of the conflict which unfolded between two composers. Salieri, a respected composer who desires to be a great musician, becomes envious of Mozart, an immature and disrespectful man who possesses an extraordinary talent. The jealousy is fuelled by the belief that God has unfairly given the talent to the wrong man and eventually leads to the threat of it consuming them both.

The Amadeus play cast includes multi-award-winning actor Michael Sheen, whose extensive work in film, TV and theatre includes Look Back in Anger, Frost/Nixon and Nye, as Antonio Salieri. Callum Scott Howells will play the role of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His credits include A View From the Bridge, It’s A Sin, and Cabaret.

The original Amadeus play is written by Peter Shaffer (Equus). This production will be directed by Jeremy Herrin (Guess How Much I Love You?, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold), with set design by Bunny Christie (Company) and costume design by Lez Brotherston (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg),

If you are searching for a brand-new revival that features “classical music, eccentric characters or a fantastic yarn about jealousy and genius” (British Theatre Guide), from one of the most prominent directors on the scene right now, Amadeus is just the ticket for you. The play arrives at the Noel Coward Theatre soon – secure your tickets today!
