Stephen Ward
Audiences interested in political scandal and historical events will be thrilled with Stephen Ward tickets
Stephen Ward is the hotly anticipated new musical from the illustrious Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber premiering at the Aldwych Theatre. Having composed additional music for the West End production of The Wizard of Oz, Stephen Ward was Sir Andrew’s first original score since Love Never Dies in 2010. The music for Stephen Ward was in keeping with its 1960’s setting which marked a break from Lloyd Webbers power ballet trend.
Stephen Ward the Musical will tell the historical tale of the disgraced Osteopath of the same name who was a key figure in the government crippling Profumo sex and espionage scandal in the 1960’s. As Ward’s story is thrust into the spotlight, the audience will see his ability to climb the high society ladder, leading him to rendezvous with some of the most influential people in Great Britain and into romantic trysts with young starlets.
Ward introduces his protégé, showgirl Christine Keeler to the UK’s War Minister, John Profumo, who duly begins an affair with the young beauty. The only problem is that Christine is also having sexual relations with Captain Eugene Ivanov, a Russian Spy. As the government opposition plan to reveal details of the affair no the nation, Ward must decide who to side with as his reputation and freedom are at stake. One things for sure, the story makes for an action packed musical.
Veteran writers Christopher Hampton and Don Black, who have both previously worked with Sir Andrew, are writers of both the book and lyrics of the show.
