The world premiere stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s classic, beloved film My Neighbour Totoro will take place at the Barbican Theatre for a 15-week season later this year.
The enchanting coming-of-age story follows sisters Satsuki and Mei as they embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures when they befriend the playful spirits who live nearby, most notably the giant, cuddly spirit Totoro.
This brand new stage production is being brought to life by the original film’s composer Joe Hisaishi, playwright Tom Morton-Smith and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Phelim McDermott will direct the production, with design by Tom Pye, lighting by Jessica Hung Han Yun, costume by Kimie Nakano, and puppetry by Basil Twist.
