Blithe Spirit tickets are predicted to be hard to come by, don’t miss out on Jennifer Saunders star turn in this classic play

After a hugely successful run during the Theatre Royal Bath’s 2019 Summer Season, Richard Eyre’s new production of Blithe Spirit, starring comic powerhouse Jennifer Saunders, transfers to the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited six-week run.

One of Noël Coward’s most celebrated plays, Blithe Spirit follows novelist Charles Condomine and his second with Ruth as they’re haunted by the spirit – visible only to Charles – of Charles’ first wife Elvira, accidentally conjured up by kooky medium Madame Arcati. Life suddenly becomes a lot more difficult as Elvira appears, determined to sabotage the new marriage.

Jennifer Saunders stars as Madame Arcati, whose intensely funny performance in the role in Bath thrilled both critics and audiences. Saunders is a national treasure, known for her partnership with Dawn French and their sketch show, French & Saunders, and her writing of and starring in hit comedy series Absolutely Fabulous, alongside Joanna Lumley.

Joining her as Charles and Ruth are Geoffrey Streatfield (Spooks, The Thick of It) and Lisa Dillon (Cranford). Richard Eyre – winner of five Olivier awards and former director of the National Theatre – directs the production, with design by Anthony Ward (Oklahoma!, Mary Stuart).
