Mother Goose
Book Mother Goose tickets and enjoy Ian McKellen’s turn as a panto dame
A new panto ruffles feathers in the West End this year, as Ian McKellen stars in Mother Goose at the Duke of York’s Theatre. This quacking tale of a couple who get their heads turned by a golden goose is a brilliant festive treat for the whole family.
The classic panto story follows Mother Goose and her husband Vic, who run an animal sanctuary from a run-down old Debenhams. They are humble and charitable, but when a magical goose turns up on their doorstep the promise of fame and fortune might become too much!
Packed with singing fairies, im-peck-able comedy, tap dancing puppets and audience participation, Mother Goose will quack you up with its hilariously chaotic story. This new version of Mother Goose is written by Jonathan Harvey (Coronation Street, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme) and directed by Cal McCrystal (‘Britain’s funniest director’ Guardian), a dream team who promise to make this the mother of all pantos.
Mother Goose in the West End stars Ian McKellen as Mother Goose herself. Although best known for his serious roles in films such as The Lord of the Rings and Shakespeare plays, this isn’t his first panto role: he has previously played panto Dames including Widow Twankey in Aladdin.
John Bishop co-stars as Mother Goose’s husband, Vic. Bishop is best-known as a comedian and one of the Doctor’s former companions in Doctor Who.
Good old fashioned family entertainment with an Academy Award-nominated Dame… Mother Goose is far from a turkey, and you’ll be honking with laughter all the way home!
