Woman in Mind
Sheridan Smith shines – Woman in Mind play tickets
Two-time Olivier Award winner Sheridan Smith makes a hotly anticipated return to the West End in Alan Ayckbourn’s darkly comic Woman in Mind play at the Duke of York’s Theatre. Directed by Michael Longhurst, this spellbinding revival delves into one woman’s fractured reality with both humour and heart, asking what happens when the lines between fantasy and truth begin to fade.
Susan is a housewife whose life suddenly splits in two after a bump to the head. One world is mundane, the other imagined… and as reality and illusion overlap, her identity, family and mental escape come under razor-sharp focus.
Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind play is a brilliant psychological drama that premiered in Scarborough in 1985, where a positive audience reaction won it a transfer to the West End. It is the 32nd of 91 plays written by Ayckbourn during his long career, with other credits including Absurd Person Singular, Absent Friends and A Small Family Business.
Sheridan Smith leads the cast as Susan, returning to the Duke of York’s where she last wowed audiences in Shirley Valentine. Her West End credits include Legally Blonde, Flare Path, Funny Girl and Little Shop of Horrors, alongside acclaimed screen roles in Mrs Biggs, Cilla and The Royle Family. She has won two Olivier Awards, for Legally Blonde and Flare Path and a BAFTA for Mrs Biggs.
The Woman in Mind play creative team includes set and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, lightning designer Lee Curran, sound designer Paul Arditti, and director Michael Longhurst (The Son, Constellations, Caroline or Change).
Woman in Mind is an intense, moving and often funny journey into what it means to lose your grip on what’s real, all carried by one of Britain’s most acclaimed actresses. It plays in Glasgow and Sunderland with an amazing ensemble cast before coming to London – don’t miss this limited engagement at the Duke of York’s Theatre!
