The Lover / The Collection
Mark the 60th anniversary of the legendary playwright’s death with Pinter at the Pinter tickets
Jamie Lloyd directs David Suchet in the second double-bill of the Pinter at the Pinter Season. Presented by The Jamie Lloyd Company, The Lover / The Collection features as one of the many star-studded productions in a season that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Nobel Prize-winning British playwright Harold Pinter, running at the venue from September 2018 to February 2019.
Both published in the mid-1960’s, The Lover and The Collection are two miniature comedic masterpieces that explore themes of secrets and seduction. Originally published in 1965, The Lover is a playful and provocative short play that features an everyday suburban couple, whose circumstances quickly become anything out of the ordinary.
The Collection was published just before in 1963 and was hailed by Laurence Olivier as one of the outstanding plays of the 20th Century. An intriguing mystery, the play delves into the lives of two London couples who become linked by sexual tensions and desires and an insatiable quest for supremacy. Both pieces are directed by Jamie Lloyd.
David Suchet stars in the plays, alongside John Macmillan (Chewing Gum), with theatre credits including The Importance of Being Earnest at the Vaudeville Theatre and Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the Apollo Theatre. Suchet is arguably best-known for his role as Agatha Christie’s Poirot and screen appearances in Peter Pan Goes Wrong and Decline and Fall.
Additional casting includes Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake) and Russell Tovey (Angels in America, The History Boys).
An unforgettable journey through some of Harold Pinter’s finest works, the entire season features a variety of one-act plays including Party Time, Celebration and The Dumb Waiter and more, all featuring star actors such as Danny Dyer, John Simm, Celia Imrie, Tamsin Greig and more.
The Lover / The Collection is the second double bill of the season, playing in rep with One for the Road / The New World Order / Mountain Language / Ashes to Ashes. Promising a night of hilarious entertainment, the production plays at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre from 13 September to 20 October 2018, with an official opening 27 September 2018.
