Following tremendous success with Cinderella, the London Palladium have announced that they will stage another all-star pantomime in 2017. Qdos Entertainment presents Dick Whittington, a family festive favourite, for a limited Christmas season beginning December 9th 2017. (Oh yes they will!)
Known for hosting variety acts and one-off concerts, the London Palladium is heading back to its original roots, earlier this year presenting the first pantomime to hit the West End in 29 years. Cinderella featured a glitzy cast, including Amanda Holden, Julian Clary, Lee Mead and Paul O’Grady, with Dick Whittington promising an equally glamorous bunch.
Dick Whittington is the well-known panto rags-to-riches story of Dick and his dancing cat! Setting off from their penniless home to find their fortune in London, the pair find their feet in the rat-infested city, which has Dick’s cat in high demand! But King Rat has his own plans and will do anything he can to stop Dick becoming the new Mayor of London!
Casting includes Julian Clary as the Spirit of the Bells, Paul Zerdin as Idle Jack and Nigel Havers as Captain Nigel, alongside WhatsOnStage Award-winner Charlie Stemp (Half a Sixpence) as Dick Whittington. Further casting includes West End legend Elaine Paige as Queen Rat, as well as Gary Wilmot as Sarah the Cook and dance troupe Diversity, with Ashley Banjo, as the Sultan and his Entourage. Emma Williams (Half a Sixpence, Mrs Henderson Presents) also joins the cast as Alice Fitzwarren.
Dick Whittington is written by Alan McHugh and features direction by Michael Harrison and choreography by Karen Bruce.
Once known for pantomimes starring household names such as Cilla Black and Barbara Windsor, the London Palladium appears to be making panto an annual outing! Opening at the London venue in December 2017, Dick Whittington is set to run until January 7th 2018.
