The Kingdom of Sweetieland is opening its doors once again, as Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! plays a strictly limited Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells.

Join King Sherbert and Queen Candy as they welcome the Gobstopper Boys, Marshmallow Girls, Knickerbocker Glory and the Liquorice Allsorts in this playful reinterpretation of Tchaikovsky’s classic masterpiece.

Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! utilises his trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy to great effect as the story follows Clara’s journey from Dr Dross’ Orphanage on Christmas Eve, to a shimmering, winter wonderland in the delectable kingdom of Sweetieland.

Last seen on stage in 2012 to celebrate its 20th anniversary, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! premiered in 1992 to great acclaim. This updated production will feature some all-new surprises from the director-choreographer and will open at Sadler’s Wells on 8th December 2020, following a short UK tour from November, calling at Plymouth, Salford and Dublin.

Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! will be presented by New Adventures, Bourne’s ground-breaking dance company. The company, known for telling classic tales with a theatrical twist, has garnered huge success over the last 30 years. They have created 11 full-length productions, won six Olivier Awards and continue to astound and astonish audiences every year.

Anthony Ward, who provided the original design for Bourne’s The Nutcracker will return to the creative team for this refreshed production, alongside lighting designer Howard Harrison, sound designer Paul Groothuis, music director Brett Morris, and associate director Etta Murfitt.

Promising a visual feast, Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, and Bourne’s dazzling choreography, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! makes the perfect Christmas treat for all the family.
