Matthew Bourne Romeo and Juliet ballet tickets promise a breathtaking night of dance

Rediscover Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers with Olivier Award-winning choreographer Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet this year. This contemporary dance and ballet production breathes fresh dynamism and urgency into a classic story and is the perfect entry point for anyone new to the genre. It returns to central London after dazzling audiences in 2019, for a summer season at Sadler’s Wells

The familiar story of young lovers who are torn apart by their warring families is infused with exciting and dangerous vitality, as they risk everything to be together and meet a devastating end. Romeo and Juliet’s youthful passion once again proves timeless in this “electrifying” (Daily Telegraph) production that sees the poetry of Shakespeare’s words transformed into stunning movement.

Choreographer Matthew Bourne is an Olivier and Tony Award-winner whose best-known work includes Nutcracker! and his groundbreaking production of Swan Lake which was distinguished by his decision to use an all-male company of swans. He and his company New Adventures are acclaimed for combining dance styles including contemporary and ballet, and his work is some of the most accessible for new dance audiences.

A unique approach and skill for making classics feel completely modern is on full display in the Matthew Bourne Romeo and Juliet ballet, which features a score by Russian composer Prokofiev. The creative team also includes costume & set designer Lez Brotherston and lighting designer Paule Constable

The company includes Paris Fitzpatrick and Andrew Monaghan sharing the role of Romeo; Cordelia Braithwaite and Monique Jonas as Juliet, and Danny Reubens and Richard Winsor as Tybalt.

The Matthew Bourne Romeo and Juliet ballet is Shakespeare’s classic story “for the millennial generation” (The Stage). This stunning production plays at Sadler’s Wells from 1 August – 2 September 2023.
