The show will be directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne OBE, who is widely hailed as the UK’s most popular and successful choreographer. Bourne has been creating dance for over thirty years and is currently best-known for his popular New Adventures series, the repertoire of which includes Swan Lake, Edward Scissorhands, and The Red Shoes. Romeo and Juliet will burst with Bourne’s trademark storytelling and feature a company of London’s brightest young dance talent. Full casting is to be announced.
The show’s design will come from Olivier and Tony Award-winning Lez Brotherston, who has collaborated with Bourne on many of his shows, as well as worked on Broadway’s Sister Act. Lighting will be by multi-award winning Paule Constable (War Horse, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time), sound by award-winning Paul Groothuis, and new orchestrations of the iconic Sergei Prokofiev score by Terry Davies. Davies has worked with Bourne on five of his previous works including Dorian Gray and Lord of the Flies. The score will be played lived by the New Adventures Orchestra.
