Joey McKneely and Louis Maskell West Side Story

Sadler’s Wells is one of the biggest and most notorious Dance Houses in the UK and they continue to produce some of the highest quality dance productions in the world. In recent years Joey McKneely’s production of West Side Story has caught global attention as it brings Arthur Laurents’ classic tale to audiences some 55 years after it’s world debut.

The Sadler’s Wells production of West Side Story first sprung onto the stage in 2008 as the show celebrated it’s 50th anniversary. After a critically acclaimed run the show is back once again for an extensive UK tour as well as a limited run at Sadler’s Wells itself.

I managed to catch up with director and choreographer, Joey McKneely and leading actor Louis Maskell in a rehearsal for the UK tour. Check out the video below to see what the pair had to say about the hotly anticipated tour.

Leap and Sadler’s Wells

Sadler’s Wells’  West Side Story partnered up with the conflict confronting organisation Leap in order to bring an awareness raising 90 minute workshop to a group of youths in the East London area. The workshop took place at London’s 3 Mills Studio and it gave youngsters a chance to tackle the issues of gang violence head on as well as offering them chance to suggest what could be done instead of demonstrating aggression. Check out our video below to see what West Side Story Choreographer Joey McKneely and actor Louis Maskell had to say about the workshop and their partnership with Leap.
