Must-see new British musical – Redcliffe Tickets

Award-winning writer, composer and lyricist Jordan Luke Gage delivers an epic tale of forbidden love with Redcliffe musical. Arriving at the Criterion Theatre for a limited run in 2027, this true story centres on a homosexual relationship in oppressive 18th century England—and the new production heads to the West End in 2027.

Redcliffe musical takes audiences to Bristol in 1752 and follows William Critchard, a man from humble beginnings and Richard, a sailor visiting the town, as they are swept up in a tidal wave of passion, self-discovery and danger. In a world where same sex relationships are punishable by death in 12 countries, this new musical packs a punch, highlighting the reality for today’s audiences. Alongside a beautifully woven score of traditional musical theatre and soaring choral arrangements, Redcliffe is a “new British musical, built on real history, with an authentic compositional voice” (Theatre Vibe).

Created by Jordan Luke Gage, the Redcliffe musical marks his writing debut. A popular West End performer, his credits include & Juliet, Heathers: The Musical and Bonnie & Clyde.  Jordan will be reprising his role as William Critichard for the West End transfer, with further cast to be announced.

Transferring to the West End in 2027, Redcliffe made its debut at MTFestUK in 2024, a unique festival that provides a platform to showcase and celebrate original musical theatre. Redcliffe went on to receive multiple workshop performances before it was fully staged for the first time at the Southwark Playhouse in spring 2026.

Directed by Paul Foster, the musical features choreography by Emma Woods, set design by Andrew Exeter, costume design by Martin Hanly, lighting design by Matt Hockley, sound design by Alistair Penman, and musical supervision by Katy Richardson.

Playing at the Criterion Theatre in 2027, Redcliffe musical is “a beautiful, moving, and important musical” (1883 Magazine) you do not want to miss. Secure your tickets to experience it for yourself.
