Set in Eastern Berlin during 1984, against a backdrop of political tensions and heavy surveillance. The Lives of Others follows a Stasi officer, Gerd Wiesler, who spies on playwright Georg Dreyman and actress Christa-Maria Sieland from an attic above their apartment. Whilst he searches for signs of opposition, Gerd becomes swept into their lives and grows conflicted by the regime that he is serving. Ultimately, audiences will witness how the power of human connection and art can shift a person’s perspective on morality. 

Keria Knightley returns to the West End for the first time since 2011 to star as Christa-Maria Sieland. With an extensive career in film and TV, the Academy Award-nominated actress’s credits include AtonementLove Actually and Bend It Like Beckham.  

Luke Thompson, who has starred in Bridgerton and A Little Life, will play the role of Georg. Completing the cast is Stephen Dillane, a well-established actor on stage and screen as Gerd Wiesler. His credits include Game of ThronesThe Crown and A Long Day’s Journey Into Night.  

The Lives of Others play is directed by Robert Icke (Uncle Vanya, The Doctor). The creative team also includes designer Hildegard Bechtler, lighting designer Jon Clark and sound designer Giles Thomas. The play features original music by Max Richter.
