Good Night, Oscar
See a Tony Award-winning performance with Good Night Oscar play tickets
Fresh from a Tony Award-winning premiere on Broadway, Will & Grace star Sean Hayes reprises a performance that “demands to be seen” (Variety) in the new Good Night Oscar play. Based on real events, this acclaimed show tells the story of Oscar Levant, an actor and pianist whose eccentric nature and struggles with mental health and addiction were subject to public scrutiny. After wowing audiences in New York, this exploration of fame and fragile genius plays at the Barbican Theatre for a limited time only.
In 1958, Jack Paar hosts the hottest late-night talk show on air. He has a favourite guest, too: Oscar Levant, a famously wild-card character actor and pianist with a penchant for witty one-liners and unexpected remarks. In Oscar’s own words, “there’s a fine line between genius and insanity; I have erased this line.” For one night only, he’s about to prove exactly that with a TV appearance that Paar and his audience won’t forget in a hurry.
Inspired by a true story, the funny and touching Good Night Oscar play reimagines Oscar Levant’s guest spot on The Tonight Show – one that he made during a four-hour-long furlough from a psychiatric hospital.
Sean Hayes brings his Tony Award-winning performance as Oscar Levant to London for this strictly limited run. Audiences will even be treated to live piano playing by the Will & Grace star as he channels Oscar’s memory and skills on stage in a “virtuosic tour de force” (Entertainment Weekly).
The play is written by Pulitzer and Tony Award winner Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife), and directed by Obie Award winner Lisa Peterson (An Iliad).
Both funny and touching, and boasting an uncanny performance from Hayes, don’t miss out on tickets for the masterful Good Night Oscar play this year. It runs at the Barbican for a strictly limited season.
