Following a hugely successful US and UK tour, a magical musical adaptation of Mr Popper’s Penguins waddles into London’s West End. Based on the novel by Richard and Florence Atwater, the children’s tale was recently adapted into a 2011 film starring Jim Carrey and now is a whole new stage extravaganza, adapted by Pins and Needles Productions.
Mr Popper’s Penguins follows painter and decorator Mr Popper as he dreams of chilly Antarctic adventures. When one day a packing crate arrives on his doorstep, the last thing he could have imagined is the penguin that pops out! Soon, one little penguins turn into many more, and Mr Popper must decide what to do!
Russell Morton stars as Mr Popper, alongside Roxanne Palmer (Legally Blonde) as Mrs Popper. Further cast members include Lucy Grattan as Greta/Admiral Drake and Toby Manley as Captain Cook/Mr Greenbaum, with Scott Jones as an understudy.
Directed by Emma Earle (Les Enfants Terribles), Mr Popper’s Penguins features design by Zoe Squire, with puppet designs by Nick Barnes, lighting design by Ric Mountjoy and sound design by Jason Barnes. With music and lyrics by Luke Bateman and Richy Hughes respectively, Mr Popper’s Penguins features plenty of penguin puppetry, songs and laughter.
