1998 DreamWorks animated film The Prince of Egypt will be adapted into a musical next year with songs by Stephen Scwartz. It plays at the Dominion Theatre for a limited run from February 2020.

The Prince of Egypt was released in 1998 and was hailed as a milestone in cinematic achievement. The film included original songs such as the global hit ‘When You Believe’, which was recorded by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. The film recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary and is one of the most beloved and acclaimed animated films of all time. The musical adaptation premiered at Theatre Works Silicon Valley, where it won a Regional Theatre Tony Award. It then played at the Fredericia Teater in Denmark for a short period.

In Anicent Egypt, two young men are raised together as brothers. But in a kingdom of privilege, they find themselves divided by a secret past. While one rules as Pharaoh, the other must rise up and free his people. Both men must face a destiny that will change history forever…

Luke Brady (Sweeney Todd) will take on the lead role of Moses alongside Liam Tamne (The Light in the Piazza) as Ramses, Christine Allado (Hamilton) as Tzipporah, Alexia Khadime (The Book of Mormon) as Miriam, Joe Dixon as Seti, Debbie Kurup as Queen Tuya, Gary Wilmot as Jethro, Adam Pearce as Hotep, Tanisha Spring as Nefertari, and Silas Wyatt-Barke Aaron.

Stephen Scwartz composes the music and lyrics. Having already written the songs from the film which will feature in the show, Schwartz has also penned ten new songs. He is also responsible for the global hit musical Wicked. The Broadway production is the 5th longest running Broadway show whilst the London production has been in the West End for over 10 years.

Philip LaZebnik (Mulan, Pocahontas), writes the books and Scott Schwartz (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) directs. Sean Cheesman (So You Think You Can Dance) choreographs.

Relive the magic of The Prince of Egypt at the Dominion Theatre London from February 2020.
