City of Angels
Be transported back to the era of film noir and classic Hollywood with City of Angels tickets
Following its acclaimed run at the Donmar Warehouse in 2014, Josie Rourke’s production of City of Angels will transfer to the West End in 2020. The production is set to open at the Garrick Theatre in March.
Cy Coleman, David Zippel and Larry Gelbart’s musical follows a writer trying to get his novel turned into a screenplay, alongside the story of the movie itself. The 2014 Donmar production was nominated for five Olivier Awards in 2015, winning Best Musical Revival and Best Lighting Design.
The West End run will see three principle cast members from the 2014 production; Hadley Fraser (Young Frankenstein) as Stine, Rebecca Trehearn (Showboat) as Donna/Oolie and Rosalie Craig (Company) as Gabby/Bobbi. Tony Award-nominee Vanessa Williams, Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts and Theo James, known for the Divergent film series, join the cast as Carla/Alaura, Avril/Mallory, and Stone – respectively – in their West End debuts. The lead cast is completed by Marc Elliot as Panchos/Munoz and Rob Houchen as Jimmy/Dr Mandril.
Rosalie Craig, Theo James, and Rob Houchen will star until 30th May and Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams will appear until 25th July.
Josie Rourke, who has been artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse since 2012, directs the production in its transfer. Choreography is by Olivier Award-winner Stephen Mear, with lighting by Howard Harrison, set and costumes by Rob Jones, sound by Terry Jardine, and video by Duncan McLean.
If you missed the Donmar production – or want to relive it – then be sure to get your tickets for City of Angels, arriving at the Garrick Theatre from 5th March 2020.
