The Phantom of the Opera is London's second-longest running musical, behind Les Miserables. Playing at His Majesty's Theatre since September 1986, the musical is hailed as Andrew Lloyd Webber's finest work, with the score celebrated throughout the world of musical theatre. Set in a haunted Parisian Opera House, The Phantom of the Opera follows the lonely Phantom as he falls in love with young soprano Christine. A tragic tale of unrequited romance, the musical features well-known songs, such as "All I Ask of You", "The Music of the Night" and, of course, "The Phantom of the Opera". The show has deservedly received 3 Olivier Awards and 7 Tony Awards.

His Majesty’s Theatre box office is located within the theatre building on Haymarket and is open from midday on performance days. Theatregoers who have purchased tickets for collection can pick up their tickets for the show an hour before the performance is due to start. History

His Majesty’s Theatre is built on one of the earliest sites in London. Originally opening in 1705, but rebuilt and redeveloped twice, the theatre was a regular home for Italian operas. Classics were performed throughout the 19th century, including The Magic Flute (1811), London’s first performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni (1817), Beethoven’s Fidelio (1851) and Wagner's The Ring (1882).

The current building on the site opened in 1897, with early productions including Pygmalion and the musical Chu Chin Chow (1916). Following the closure during the First and Second World Wars, His Majesty's Theatre reinstated itself by staging large musicals such as West Side Story (1958) and the London premiere of Fiddler on the Roof (1967), which ran at the theatre for over an impressive 2,000 performances.

In 1986, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera opened at the theatre, scooping several Olivier Awards in the process. One of the world's most successful musicals, The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 30th birthday with a gala performance in 2016 and continues to play to this day.
