Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Story, a brand-new musical biopic of one of the most iconic musicians of all-time will open at the Lyric Theatre in 2021.

The musical will take direct inspiration from Bob Marley’s visionary lyrics to tell his extraordinary personal story, featuring some of his greatest songs including No Woman No Cry, 3 Little Birds and Exodus.

Marley is considered one of the pioneers of reggae music and played an integral role in increasing the visibility of Jamaican music and the Rastafarian movement worldwide. He died from cancer in 1981, receiving a state funeral in Jamaica and an outpouring of grief globally. His posthumous greatest hits album, Legend, became the best-selling reggae album of all-time.

Arinze Kene (Misty, Girl from the North Country) will take on the titular role, with further casting to be announced. The musical will feature a book by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour) and direction from Dominic Cooke (Follies, and the upcoming revival of Hello, Dolly starring Imelda Staunton).

Get Up, Stand Up will begin previews at the newly refurbished Lyric Theatre on 6th February 2021, the date that would have been Marley’s 76th birthday. Tickets will be available in April 2020. Don’t miss your chance to discover the personal story of one of music’s most important and influential artists.
