Following an electrifying short run of try-out performances in 2023, the brand-new musical heads back to London, this time for a reign at The Other Palace. Audiences are in for a few hours of awesome entertainment as the production redefines the expectations of what a musical can be. We expect Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist to be popular, so grab your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
Think gigs and ballet combined as Cake the Musical retells the story of Marie Antoinette through a multi-genre pop score. In 18th-century France, the Queen was blighted by gossip and scandal, with her reputation at stake and the monarchy and France turning against her. How would she change her narrative and start a revolution?
The cast is small but mighty, consisting of Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins, Strictly Ballroom) and Renée Lamb (Be More Chill, Six) as both return to their roles of Marie Antoinette and Jeanne. Further casting is to be announced closer to the production’s start date.
Cake the Musical was originally commissioned by Paul Taylor-Mills (Heathers, In The Heights, My Son’s A Queer), with the book written by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, the writer of Olivier Award-winning play, Emilia, and Tasha Taylor Johnson. Bronagh Lagan is directing the musical with staging by Drew McOnie (In The Heights, Jesus Christ Superstar). The musical has already proven itself popular after a short run at the Lyric Theatre in 2022, featuring Strallen and Lamb, with the musical originally premiering at the Turbine Theatre in Battersea as part of MT Fest 2021.
Fans of new, upbeat, multi-genre musicals won’t want to miss this brand-new production as it marks its London reign at The Other Palace later this year. Tickets are set to sell fast, so secure yours now!
