John Proctor Is the Villain
A must-see West End transfer – John Proctor Is the Villain play tickets
Kimberly Belflower’s Tony-nominated John Proctor Is the Villain play takes Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and transforms it into an emotionally striking show which examines what it means to be a girl growing up in today’s world. Following its sell-out UK debut at the Royal Court Theatre, where it broke box-office records, “one of the most inspiring, believable scenes of resistance and solidarity” (British Theatre Guide) arrives at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre! John Proctor Is the Villain is a must-see for anyone wanting to experience one of the best new plays of our time!
Set in a rural Georgia town in 2018, John Proctor Is the Villain centres on a group of high-school students who sit down to study Arthur Miller’s classic play, The Crucible. Although the five young women are initially more preoccupied with sex, gossip, and who’s making out with whom, tensions rise when one of the students’ fathers is accused of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement. As they explore Miller’s tale about the Salem witch trials, what comes to the surface is a challenge to whether he was a tragic hero or a predatory villain who abused his power. The play inevitably investigates vital questions about who we choose to believe and why. John Proctor Is the Villain offers a striking new perspective that will leave you “never view[ing] The Crucible in the same way again” (Washington Post).
The play is written by Kimberly Belflower (Teen Girl FANtasies, Gondal), a Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner from America. John Proctor Is the Villain made its Broadway debut in 2025 before transferring to the Royal Court Theatre in early 2026. The play is directed by Tony Award-winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders The Musical, Pass Over).
Set to a pulsating soundtrack of pop, adrenaline and barely-contained rage, follow five bold young women as they take hold of the narrative for themselves in today’s world! The John Proctor Is the Villain play is an “absolutely essential” (WhatsOnStage) piece of theatre that everyone must experience at least once. Book your tickets to experience the hype of this compelling play for yourself at Wyndham’s Theatre. It plays for a 12-week season, so there’s not much time!
