Following an acclaimed run at the Sheffield Crucible earlier this year, Lolita Chakrabarti’s adaption of beloved novel Life of Pi will arrive in London at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
After a cargo ship sinks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, just five survivors remain on a single small lifeboat – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a hungry Bengal tiger, and a sixteen-year-old boy. Both time and the harsh realities of nature are against them – will any of them survive?
Based on Yann Martel’s Booker Prize winning novel, which has sold over fifteen million copies worldwide, Life of Pi is presented in a gripping new adaptation by Lolita Chakrabarti, winner of both the Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright and the Most Promising Playwright Award from Critics Circle.
Hiran Abeysekera (Botticelli in the Fire, Behind the Beautiful Forevers) will lead the cast as Pi. He will be joined by David K.S. Tse (The Tempest) as Mr Okamoto, Habib Nasib Nader (Little Britain) as Cook/Voice of Richard Parker, Kirsten Foster (OthelloMacbeth) as Lulu Chen, Mina Anwar (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as Ma, Raj Ghatak (The Kite Runner) as Mamaji/Pandit-Ji, Sagar Arya (Tamburlaine) as Pa, Sarah Kameela Impey (Pinocchio) as Rani, Syreeta Kumar (Equus) as Mrs Biology/Zaida Khan, Tom Espiner (Berberian Sound Studio) as Father Martin/Commander Grant-Jones, Daisy Franks (The Gruesome Twosome) as the Tiger Hind, Fred Davis (Running Wild) as the Tiger Richard Parker, Romina Hytten and Scarlet Wilderink as the Tiger Heart, and Tom Larkin and Tommy Luther as the Tiger Head
